That implies changing something bad or undesirable for something that is profitable. Am I willing to <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\">redeem<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\"> my time with something that matters for eternity? Am I walking \u201cworthy of the Lord,\u201d seeking to please Him in all things, and increasing in the knowledge of God (Col. 1:10)?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A few facts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\">A presentation by CIW stated that tablet users tend to spend about 95 minutes a day on their tablets<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\">The most popular activities on tablets include gaming (84%), searching for info (78%) and emailing (74%) (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/insights\/library\/studies\/understanding-tablet-device-users\">source<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\">125 years of Angry Birds is played every day (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/insights\/featured\/understanding-mobile-users\/\">source<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\">89% of mobile users use their smartphone throughout the day (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/gview?url=http:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/insights\/uploads\/23600.pdf\">source<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Electronic devices are useful. Let&#8217;s use them to save time and be productive rather than waste a lot of time that could be better spent for the Lord.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top: 15px;\">What are some things you can do if you&#8217;re bored, waiting in line, etc. instead of starting a game on your mobile device?<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Pray<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Read the Scriptures (you can do that on your device too)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Study the Scriptures<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Reflection on the Scriptures, alone with God<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Listen to Christian music<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Visit a lonely Christian or elderly saint<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Bake a dessert for the neighbors<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Reach out to neighbors with the gospel<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Gospel outreach (see this <a href=\"http:\/\/gospelriver.com\/bible\/gospel-outreach\/\">link<\/a> for ideas &amp; resources)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Volunteer in the community (Boys and Girls clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, hospice&#8230;)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Learn a foreign language<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">What else can you think of?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Treasure Trouble<\/h2>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6aa663b476434\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"View\"    >View<\/span><span id='swap-id6aa663b476434'  class='colomat-swap' style='display:none;'>Hide<\/span><div id=\"target-id6aa663b476434\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Shoppers spent $300 (median) on smartphone purchases in the past year (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/gview?url=http:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/insights\/uploads\/23600.pdf\">source<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Don&#8217;t put your treasure into a bag with holes. Invest it in heaven, where moths, rust and a bad economy won&#8217;t touch it.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"padding-top: 20px;\">Testimony Trouble<\/h2>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6aa663b476453\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"View\"    >View<\/span><span id='swap-id6aa663b476453'  class='colomat-swap' style='display:none;'>Hide<\/span><div id=\"target-id6aa663b476453\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\nThink about the following questions in regard to being a good testimony for Christ:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIs this going to bring glory or shame to my heavenly Father?\u201d (1 Cor 4:5; 10:31)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCan I do this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, with His authority?\u201d (Col 3:17)<\/li>\n<li>Will this help or hinder? (1Cor. 14:26)<\/li>\n<li>Is this a good example to others? (Tit. 2:7)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Did you know that watching movies through an app on Facebook may post a story to your news feed about what you\u2019re watching without your knowledge? (Also, never view videos that ask you to share them with others before viewing.)<br \/>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Thought Trouble<\/h2>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6aa663b47646a\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"View\"    >View<\/span><span id='swap-id6aa663b47646a'  class='colomat-swap' style='display:none;'>Hide<\/span><div id=\"target-id6aa663b47646a\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\nRemember Mr. Dryburgh\u2019s five points to WATCH: your <strong>W<\/strong>ords, your <strong>A<\/strong>ctions, your <strong>T<\/strong>houghts, your <strong>C<\/strong>ompany, your <strong>H<\/strong>eart.<\/p>\n<p>Ideas for safeguarding our eyes and thoughts in this technology age:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"http:\/\/k9webprotection.com\"><strong>K9 Web Protection<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0is a good, free tool to filter the content you and your family come into contact with on the web.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Add time restrictions, make exceptions, force safe search, and monitor user activity.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Be aware! There is no perfect solution. Programs can\u2019t look at pictures and tell you if they are bad or not. They can only filter out sites that are known to contain bad material. This includes sites like YouTube that could be used legitimately (although the writer believes no young child should be allowed to use YouTube unsupervised for long periods of time).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gospelriver.com\/tech\/parental-controls\/\">Parental Controls<\/a> for other options when dealing with children<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">YouTube allows you to turn on <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">safety mode<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> at the bottom of the screen. Check the box to <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">lock safety mode for this browser<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> and repeat for all of your computer\u2019s browsers. As far as I know, once it\u2019s on, you can\u2019t remove it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Chrome and Firefox browsers have a plugin\/extension called <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Adblock Plus\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">which filters out many advertisements. Some sites like Facebook have found ways to get around it, but it still helps.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">You might be able to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gospelriver.com\/tech\/accessing-info-all-in-one-place\/\">feeds<\/a> to bypass some of the filth<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 1.5em; font-weight: bold;\">Temptation Trouble<\/h2>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6aa663b47647f\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"View\"    >View<\/span><span id='swap-id6aa663b47647f'  class='colomat-swap' style='display:none;'>Hide<\/span><div id=\"target-id6aa663b47647f\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">The things you access via technology have the power to ruin your life and testimony for God, as well as your relationships.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Think outside of emotions and passions and see things from God\u2019s perspective.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Force yourself to think about the future ramifications of your present actions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 22.399999618530273px;\">Cultivate your relationship with the Lord, family and other believers. Meaningful, satisfying relationships go far beyond the physical.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\u201cThen when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren\u201d (James 1:15-16 NASB). Flee \u2026! Follow after \u2026! (2Tim 2:22)<\/li>\n<li>Like Christ, respond to temptation using the Word of God<\/li>\n<li>Remember that suffering comes before glory, and hardship before rest.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Modesty\u00a0<\/strong>is important\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The world we live in has largely lost a sense of modesty due to many things, including advertising, television and the Internet. Please do not contribute to this sensual, immodest world by posting your beach (or perhaps prom) photos on social media (we won\u2019t address the other related issues here). By doing so, you tempt others to sin, and that is serious.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><em>\u201c\u2026decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother\u201d<\/em> (Rom. 14:13 ESV).\u00a0We recognize that our dear sisters likely have no idea how these images can impact a man. Modesty is beautiful to a spiritual man and of great price to God.
